EDUCATION

Education at DTEA

At DTEA, education is a core pillar of our mission. We strive for academic excellence by providing students with access to tutoring, homework support, and enrichment opportunities that reinforce the importance of learning both on and off the court. Through mentorship, structure, and encouragement, we empower our students to build strong study habits, confidence, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Education Offerings

A.C.E. Life Skills Curriculum

Academic and Creative Engagement™ (A.C.E.) Curriculum is an out-of-school academic curriculum endorsed by the USTA Foundation. A.C.E is designed for tennis-based environments where youth can:

  • develop social skills & emotional intelligence

  • improve attitudes towards math, literacy, and academic achievement

  • acquire transferable skills (i.e. public speaking)

Through the USTA Foundation, DTEA provides fully funded accounts to Winward Academy, an award-winning and research-based online learning platform that prepares students in grades 7–12 for college and career success. This collaboration allows youth to access over 250 hours of interactive lessons, 10,000 practice questions, and 16 real past ACT and SAT exams. DTEA participants and parents also receive weekly activity reports and personalized study plans to support their academic success. DTEA ensures that financial barriers do not limit our student access to college readiness.

Social & Emotional Learning

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-management, and interpersonal skills necessary to navigate life’s challenges. Our sports-based youth development program integrates SEL by prioritizing strong coach-athlete mentorship and creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks. Whether a child is picking up a racket for the first time or competing in a tournament, we use the court as a classroom to turn athletic experiences into opportunities to grow. DTEA uses Hello Insight, a nationally recognized, research-based survey and evaluation tool for measuring youth development.

On the M.O.V.E

The On the M.O.V.E. program at DTEA is dedicated to empowering student-athletes through a holistic approach to mentorship, organization, value, and education. By focusing on life planning, personal branding, and wellness, we help participants build the character and skills needed to become future community leaders. We host free monthly workshops for boys and girls of all ages.

Boys on the MOVE (boys ages 11 and up)
Girls on the MOVE (girls ages 11 and up)
Kids on the MOVE (kids ages 4-10)

College Scholarships

DTEA supports students in their post-secondary journey by awarding college scholarships for graduates at our annual banquet. By belonging to an NJTL, graduates enter a statewide and nationwide networks that open doors to exclusive funding opportunities. The USTA Foundation is proud to support NJTL graduates by inviting NJTL youth to apply for college scholarships. DTEA students are prepared to become model candidates for scholarship opportunities, by demonstrating a long-standing commitment to community service, academic excellence, and sportsmanship.
